Faceup is a term what's used when you are talking about painting BJD's faces. You can either call it makeup, but usually that term is not used, because you can't use real human make up's on BJD's.
BJD's are made of resin, and as hard as the surface is, it can be easily damaged because of wrong supplies. Oil and acetone are one of the bad ones to use on resin. Many human makeups contains oil.
Materials I use to paint dolls:
✖ UV cut MSC
✖ High quality acrylics
✖ Pasteldust
✖ Game Varnish Gloss
✖ Volks Pearl Powder
✖ Face up removal with Acetone free Nailpolish remover
I also use 10/0 brushes to paint the details like eyelashes and eyebrows. One faceup can take from 5 hours to several days, depending on how difficult the faceup is.
I've painted dolls for several years already, and I started to take paid commissions about 4 years ago. I still have alot to learn and improve, but I'm always happy when a customer is excited about their doll's new face. I hope to get to paint many more dolls in the near future.
